The Diplomatic Relations Between the UAE and China
- The diplomatic relation between the UAE and China was established on November 1st 1984 and on March 19th 1987, the UAE opened its embassy in Beijing.
- The United Arab Emirates has opened three Consulates General consecutively in the People's Republic of China.
- The first UAE Consulate General was opened in Hong Kong (SAR) on April 2000, followed by UAE Shanghai Consulate General which was established on April 2009, then come the UAE Consulate General in Guangzhou which was opened on April 2016.
- The People's Republic of China opened its Embassy in Abu Dhabi on April 1985, and its Consulate General in Dubai on November 1988.
Sino-UAE Bilateral Relations
Sino – UAE bilateral relations is Characterized by its speedy development specially in the light of economic and investment conditions of both UAE and China. It is also due to the rapid development that the UAE economy has achieved. The exchange of visits between high officials from the two countries have also played an important role in pushing the political relations between the two countries to the level of Strategic partnership, especially at the time when the two countries witnessing speedy development in their relationship in various sectors and at all levels. The official visits paid by H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai (May Allah protect him) to the People's Republic of China in 2008 and the one paid by H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in 2009 were regarded as two turning points in China-UAE relations, strengthened the relations in every aspect specially in the economic trade and investment fields
The UAE supports one China policy and it has refuted in many international occasions and foiled attempt Taiwan's attempts to obtain international recognitions as Independent and sovereign state among countries. The Chinese government highly appreciate the UAE support and so grateful and presented its gratitude to the country for the fact that UAE had foiled the attempt of Taiwan to achieve its related projects on the 122nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization.
The UAE has rejected the request of Taiwan to join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) as an observer. Taiwan had managed to throw influence on less-developed countries in Africa and South America by providing financial assistance, but this kind of attempts do not comply with the UAE. As for the visits paid by Taiwanese people to UAE.they all come for business and commercial purposes only nevertheless these visits do not affect the official stance of UAE government, nor indicates the UAE's recognition of Taiwan as an independent state.
The Economic Relations between the United Arab Emirates and the People's Republic of China
The UAE is considered as one of the important trade partners of the People's Republic of China in the Middle East Region, while China comes after Japan as a second trade partner to the UAE. China has succeeded to make Dubai as a trade center for re-exporting its products to many countries in the Middle East Region and African, a move which helps to make the UAE the only Arab country ranked 27th in the list of the world's 30 biggest commodity importing countries. Moreover, the Chinese enterprises also managed to enter the UAE markets and invest in the fields of engineer contracting, infrastructure construction and even in information transfer sector as well.
In terms of international cooperation, the two countries have reached a consensus on strengthening the cooperation and keeping a unified position at the international organizations towards many current international issues, such as climate change, energy, food security, reform of the United Nations as well as the cooperation on exchanging support for the nominations for regional and international positions that do not conflict with the interests of the two countries.
The two countries have also strengthened their economy and trade relations, established strategic partnership exchanged experience and set up a general joint committee to enhance the bilateral relations in economy, law science and tourism as well as other areas.
As the UAE is considered the second largest trade partner to China after the Saudi Arabia in Middle East, the two countries have always maintained to narrow the gab in trade deficit by reducing the tariffs on some commodities exported from UAE to China such as aluminum. The bilateral trade volume between the two countries has reached 36.22 billion dollars during 2016.
The relations between UAE and China at the primary stage as confined to cooperation in the fields of economic trade and consular sectors, but it has only recently expanded to cover other areas including culture, tourism, health sectors, due to the joint efforts of the two countries and the speedy development of the Chinese economy which enabled China to become international huge market in terms of supply and demand. And for closer bilateral relation, the two countries have signed many agreements and memories of understanding with the most prominent ones are Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement, Agreement on Establishing Joint Committee, Agreement on Investment Protection and avoidance of Dual Taxation, Cultural Cooperation Agreement, Agreement on Exchange Extradition of Criminals, as well as other agreements which have great impact in strengthening the bilateral cooperation in different sectors.
