Since its establishment, the United Arab Emirates has built up relationships with France based on peace, dialogue, cooperation, and openness, and whose fondations were laid by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE. These relationships were developed under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Rached Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
These bilateral relations are the fruit of the conjunction of tow political wills which have been always affirmed from Emirates and French both sides. The result was a special strategic partnership on all scopes. The cooperation between the two countries is not limited to political aspects but it includes various sectors as economy, tourism, education, culture, hydrocarbon, agriculture, industry, medicine, telecommunications, aeronautics, electricity, water, and environment, as well as security, military and strategic cooperation. France-UAE bilateral relations also include trade, exchange of experience, training and working together within international and regional organisations.
UAE's admission as an observer to the International Organization of the Francophonie and its attendance at all preparatory meetings of Francophone countries reflect the growing relationship between the two countries and their mutual desire to consolidate and strengthen their relation.
We note also the significant presence of the UAE at the G20 meetings under French presidency by participating in all meetings that took place throughout 2011.
The excellence of these relations based on mutual respect and common interest is maintained and enforced by a tight consultation between political leaders of both countries through exchanging regular official visits at ministers or presidential levels.
H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has established strong relations of personal friendship with all successive French Presidents without exception, from Valery Giscard d'Estaing to Jacques Chirac passing by Francois Mitterrrand. These three Presidents have made official visits to the United Arab Emirates.
The last official visit of French president Nicolas Sarkozy to the UAE took place in May 2009 where he discussed at length with His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the two countries bilateral relations and ways to strengthen mutual ties in all areas.
